The ASCENT Program
(Afternoon Social Club Encouraging Networking and Transitions) is an afternoon
program for teens and young people. ASCENT provides structured activities
that promote independence, self-reliance, and are integrated into the
community to the fullest extent possible.
The
ASCENT members participate in activities that foster social and cultural
awareness, personal growth and assist them to overcome the challenges
of youth and their disabilities. It is a social club that is both community
and center-based and implements life skills themes that include:
- Functional Literacy
- Money Management/Budgeting
- Time Management
- Personal Care and
Hygiene Awareness
- Meal Planning,
Shopping and Cooking
- Understanding/Practicing
Social Standards
- Health, Safety
and Fitness
- Community Safety
- Mobility/Travel
